Nature sounds like rain, wind, and ocean waves are soothing to humans because they create a sense of relaxation and calmness, which helps reduce stress and anxiety and aids sleep.
These natural sounds are often referred to as forms of “white noise” or “pink noise” and have been shown to have a similar effect on the brain as meditation.
According to research, exposure to natural sounds can promote relaxation and improve sleep quality by regulating the body's stress response and decreasing cortisol levels, a hormone associated with stress.
These sounds can also help mask other noises that may be disruptive to sleep, such as traffic or loud neighbors. In addition, nature sounds can create a positive association with the environment, which can further enhance relaxation and positive feelings.
Research
Here is an overview of three research studies on the effects of listening to nature sounds on wellbeing:
- Alvarsson et al. (2010) examined the effects of nature sounds and environmental noise on stress recovery. Participants listened to either nature sounds (birdsong and a flowing stream) or noise (traffic and people talking) for 5 minutes before and after performing a stressful task. The results showed that the nature sounds group had a greater reduction in cortisol levels (a hormone associated with stress) compared to the noise group, indicating that nature sounds may have a greater restorative effect on the body.
- Yang et al. (2016) investigated the influence of nature sounds on sleep quality. Participants listened to either nature sounds (rain and wind) or silence for 30 minutes before going to bed. The results showed that the nature sounds group had better sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, compared to the silence group.
- Omlin et al. (2018) conducted a systematic review of studies examining the effects of nature sounds on attention and negative affect. The results showed that exposure to nature sounds can improve attention and reduce negative emotions such as anxiety and anger.
With this in mind, it is no wonder we've had so many requests for sleep meditations that feature a nature sound. And that's why we developed the Delta Sleep meditations pack!

With three blissful natural soundscape versions to choose from – rain, ocean waves, and wind – this program will take you on a soothing journey that will help you unwind and drift off into a peaceful slumber.
Our natural soundscape recordings are the result of meticulous field work carried out by our team of producers, who have captured the sounds of nature in all its splendor.
Each recording is unique, capturing the subtle nuances of rain droplets, the gentle ebb and flow of ocean waves, and the soothing rustle of wind through the trees.
In addition, our signature Delta frequency binaural beats work in harmony with the natural soundscape to enhance relaxation and promote a deeper, more restful sleep.
Delta brainwaves are associated with deep sleep, and by listening to the program you can entrain your brain to produce more Delta waves, allowing you to achieve a state of profound relaxation and rejuvenation.
Whether you're struggling to fall asleep, stay asleep, or simply wanting to unwind after a hectic day, our Delta Sleep program is the perfect solution.
So lay back, close your eyes, and let the soothing sounds of nature transport you to a place of tranquility and restfulness.
Frequency & Tuning Information
The Delta Sleep tracks feature binaural beats frequencies in the Delta state, which, as previously mentioned, is associated with deep sleep.
The track begins at a higher frequency of 12 Hz, which is an approximation of where your brain likely is when you start listening. In short, the track is tuning into your brain from the outset. Then, as the track progresses, the frequency winds down gradually until it reaches 0.5 Hz, a very low, relaxing delta wave frequency.
In addition, the tracks include a natural sound overlay that tuned to the frequency of 174 Hz. This frequency is derived from the ancient Solfeggio scale and has been found to promote a natural anesthetic effect, further supporting relaxation and deep sleep.
The Delta Sleep Package
The Delta Sleep download package offers a variety of options to suit your sleep needs.
Each of the three tracks is provided in both 30-minute and 60-minute versions, allowing you to choose the length of time that best suits your sleep schedule. Additionally, a raw tone version is included, which features only the binaural beats frequencies (without the accompanying nature sounds).
Whether you struggle with insomnia, stress, or simply want to enhance the quality of your sleep, these recordings can help you unwind and drift off into a peaceful slumber.
1. Delta Rain
Delta Rain features the gentle sound of real rain combined with an undercurrent of Delta wave frequencies, helping to promote relaxation and encourage deep sleep. The natural white noise of the rain helps to block out distracting noises and create a peaceful environment for sleep.
2. Delta Ocean Waves
Delta Ocean Waves is a relaxing recording of natural ocean waves combined with Delta wave frequencies. The calming sound of the waves provides a soothing escape to block out other sounds, calm your mind, and create a serene atmosphere for sleep.
3. Delta Wind
Delta Wind is a natural recording of the sound of wind blowing in an open landscape, underpinned by sleep-inducing Delta wave frequencies. The persistent presence of the wind engulfs your mind, helping you relax and free yourself from persistent thought processes.
4. Raw Tone
Also included in your package is the raw tone, which is the binaural beats frequency track without any sound overlay.

Please note:
The tracks can also be played through a portable speaker, tablet or phone, without headphones. However, in this instance, you will only benefit from the relaxing nature sounds and not the binaural beats frequencies. The binaural beats frequencies require the use of headphones to be fully effective, as they work by producing slightly different frequencies in each ear. Therefore, if you want to fully experience the benefits of the Delta wave frequencies, we recommend using headphones.
